*Job Description*
The Maintenance Worker I, under supervision, maintains buildings and equipment for assigned department.
*Responsibilities:*
-Performs preventative maintenance, repairs and service work on machinery, equipment and fixtures.
-Performs skilled trade work including painting, carpentry, plumbing, plastering, cementing and electrical work.
Performs electrical and acetylene welding, brazing and soldering.
-Repairs sidewalks, sewer lines, building slabs, streets and related installations.
-Operates machinery such as drill press, sharpeners, table saws, chain saws, lawn mowers, edgers, weed eaters and other miscellaneous equipment.
-Assists in preparing floors and occasionally replaces broken or missing tile.
Finishes and repairs furniture as needed.
-Moves heavy equipment and assists in special set-ups.
-Performs related duties as required.
*Education and Experience:*
-High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-One year of related experience in building, machinery, and/or equipment maintenance.
*Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:*
None.
Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
_Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:_
Familiarity with appropriate laboratory, farm and/or technical equipment.
Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks as directed by the supervisor.
*Other Requirements:*
Ability to exert heavy force.
Ability to lift heavy objects.
