Transportation Specialist I or II- Brownwood Operations - (2303969) Position Information TxDOT's Brownwood District is searching for a Transportation Specialist I or II to join our Operations department in Brownwood, TX! This position will perform assortment of tasks related to traffic operations, traffic systems and transportation programs.
This work also requires proficiency with computer software and applications such as excel and powerpoint as well as; professional communication and timely responses via phone or email to members of the public, coworkers, safety professionals, mid to high level management and local government stakeholders.

gov) Position Description Transportation Specialist I and II: Provides technical expertise and coordination for transportation programs involving design, building construction projects, construction of transportation systems, traffic operations, maintenance of highways and facilities, or bridge inspection and appraisal in accordance with Department standards.
Assists with project planning and the development of policies and procedures for area of responsibility.
Work requires contact with governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities.
Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties: Transportation Specialist I: Assists with administering contracts for installation and maintenance of traffic systems and/or traffic data collection devices Coordinates communication between district/division/Department of Public Safety and other external entities Coordinates traffic studies, analyzes traffic data, determines need and prepares plan layouts for traffic projects including signs, signals, illumination devices or traffic data collection devices Investigates new methods of automated traffic data collection Makes recommendations to replace or modify signs, signals and illumination devices Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development Prepares and distributes strip maps for speed zones Researches and evaluates data, interprets and analyzes results, prepares reports and recommends solutions to problems Responds to complaints and identifies problems regarding traffic signal timing, congestion, operations and assists in developing recommendations for long-term solutions.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned Transportation Specialist II in addition to the above duties: Researches and analyzes incoming correspondence, reports and other written material Serves as a liaison with city, county and other governmental and private entities concerning traffic issues and works to establish viable solutions.
Serves as technical member on transportation-related projects.
Minimum Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline.
Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year per year basis.
Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications Experience: Transportation Specialist I: 2 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience Transportation Specialist II: 4 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license.
This position requires driving a state vehicle.
