*GOAL: *
Provide quality and health and safety service assistance for school districts serving Head Start children ages birth to five.
To maintain playground equipment in a manner consistent with federal guidelines and local program goals.
To maintain a safe classroom environment for Head Start children, teach Infant/Child First Aid/CPR for Head Start staff, to comply with all federal guidelines (Head Start Performance Standards), Caring for Our Children, and other guidelines as deemed appropriate.
*FUNDING: * * Head Start - 448 * Early Head Start - 445 * COVID - 438 *QUALIFICATIONS:* * High School diploma or equivalent * Experience in working with health and safety regulations * Special Knowledge/Skills/Experience/Physical Demands: Experience in writing reports for health and safety; familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics, proficient in MS Office.
* Oversee installations, maintenance, and disposal of equipment and/or substances.
*MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES* * *Program Planning/Organizational Skills* * Inspects and repairs existing Head Start/Early Head Start playground equipment installed in Head Start sites.
* Maintains documentation of inspections and repairs for safety records.
* Solicits bids for playground equipment and installation.
* Organizes and supervises playground equipment installation and/or relocation.
* Assists in presenting personal safety programs to Head Start children and families.
* Provides training and assistance on playground equipment and safety, which may require out of region travel.
* Attends safety seminars to remain current on changing safety standards.
* Performs a Head Start safety inspection in all Head Start/Early Head Start classrooms.
* Delivers Head Start classroom furniture and equipment.
* Utilizes computer skills.
* Teaches CPR and First Aid classes to Head Start staff and maintains records of all CPR and First Aid classes for the certifying agency.
* Maintains current knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and ESC Policy, and disseminates information regarding health, nutrition, and safety to support staff, Head Start classroom staff, councils, and LEAs with approval of Head Start Director.
* Creates a culture of safety throughout the program.
Provides training and staff support to prioritize children’s safety.
* Works cooperatively with school districts to support the implementation of Head Start Performance Standards.
* Ensures that proper documentation on health records and forms is maintained, in accordance with job-related confidentiality.
* Coordinates a comprehensive safety services program for Head Start children and their families.
* Assist with the ESC Safety Committee.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
* *Fiscal Management* * Assists Head Start Director by making recommendations for budget preparation.
* Produces documentation to support expenditures as authorized by the Head Start Director.
* Utilizes cost-effective methods of reaching identified objectives.
* *Leadership* * Demonstrates leadership in the development of decisions and innovations affecting the health and safety of Head Start children.
* Assists in guiding the daily work of Head Start staff in implementing Health and Safety Performance Standards.
* Coordinates and collaborates with community agencies and service providers.
* *Communication Skills* * Demonstrates effective/positive communication techniques and utilizes proper communication channels with administrators, teachers, students, parents, Team Leaders, and ESC staff.
* Maintains positive contacts with outside service providers as needed.
* *Consultative and Technical Assistance* * Demonstrates accessibility through periodic campus visits.
* Assists with ADA and Safety measures for children and staff.
* Review classroom notebooks for safety.
* Assist with annual staff training and new staff Orientation.
* Assist with staff CPR and First Aid CertificatioN.
* *Human Relations* * Demonstrates professional courtesy during personal interactions with LEAs and ESC staff.
* Responds promptly to requests/inquiries by LEAs, Head Start staff, and parents.
* Demonstrates a willingness to cooperate with other staff members for the achievement of common goals.
* Displays an attitude of personal and professional concern in group and individual settings.
* *Specialized Knowledge* * Obtains playground certification National Program for Playground & Safety Early Childhood Certification * Recommends and prepares effective in-service and instructional resources for staff, and LEAs to meet children/family needs.
