Responsibilities and Expectations: As a Wind Field Service Technician Apprentice, you will undergo comprehensive training throughout a 2-year program to become proficient in wind turbine and generator and motor repair and testing.
Curriculum will cover the knowledge and skills required to: Assist in maintenance tasks on wind generators, such as bearing replacements, and addressing slip ring and grounding ring issues.
Conduct up tower winding repairs, measurements of critical dimensions, and up tower machining.
Safely lifting, tightening, adjusting, and securing heavy objects to facilitate work duties.
Execute intermediate-level maintenance and troubleshooting tasks for wind turbines.
Collect and accurately document information on turbine performance and issues.
Diagnose routine problems, provide recommendations, and assist in implementing solutions.
Follow structured troubleshooting processes and effectively using diagnostic tools.
Assist in utilizing specialized tools and equipment, accurately documenting tasks, and data.
Seek assistance for complex issues beyond personal expertise.
Adhere to safety standards, identifying potential gaps and risks, and implementing effective mitigation measures.
Follow standardized work procedures and apply strong analytical problem-solving skills within a continuous improvement framework.
How long does the program last? Program Duration: 2-Year Apprenticeship Program During this time, apprentices will be paid a progressively increasing schedule of wages based on job hours and related instruction.
Pay is based on an established plan approved by the Department of Labor (DOL) program with based raise increments every six months.
What type of training will you receive? Apprenticeships provide support for targeted one-on-one learning.
Someone is always available to answer your questions, show you how to perform a skill, and help you perfect techniques.
You will have direct access to mentors, coaches, and colleagues who can help address your knowledge gaps, maximize your strengths, use specific instruction from your studies, and instantly apply it to real-world experience.

What opportunities will you have when completed? Upon graduation from either high school or technical school, our apprentices work for IPS full-time with all benefits.
