GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of Center Coordinator, responsibilities include assisting with supervision of children; leading arts, crafts, games, and sports; ensuring summer camp rules are followed; implementing recommendations by staff; and other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Although this position exercises no direct supervision over other employees, the Playground Aide is responsible for Camp participants.
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Assist in the management of the summer camp program.
Be courteous and provide quality customer service while effectively communicating with children, parents, staff, and the general public.
Responsible for safety of summer camp participants by responding to incidents and emergencies, and enforcing camp policies and procedures.
Perform light janitorial duties as assigned.
OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES
Support all City of Abilene Parks and Recreation activities and events.
Perform other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
A variety of games, arts, and crafts.
Skill to:
Ensure safety of children attending the camp program.
Ability to:
Respond quickly in an emergency situation.
Learn the computer system (Active) and scanning procedures.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

Experience and Training Guidelines:
For positions with more than one level, all listed requirements at the lower levels are required at the higher levels.
Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying.

Experience:
Prefer previous experience in a camp program setting is preferred.
Education/Training:
Completion of some high school and must be at least 16 years of age.
Any equivalent combination of recreation experience and training may be qualifying.
License or Certificate:
None required.
Special Requirements:
Arrive to work on time as scheduled, in the appropriate work attire.
Must be able to work a flexible work schedule that includes nights, holidays, and weekends.
Must be able to work in outdoor conditions and extreme heat.
Must be at least the minimum age of 16.
